One Little Baby

Yesterday at the 6:00 Sunday mass, I was assigned collector. As I was doing the rounds, I saw a baby probably not more than 3 months old sleeping in his father's arm. Actually, I could not tell whether the baby was a girl or a boy. What caught my attention, however was the crease on his forehead not unlike what one does when in intense pain! The baby's eyes were closed, asleep maybe and mercifully too, if he really was in pain. I noticed the head. It was a little big for an infant. I felt for the baby, so innocent and yet suffering so! He does not even know that he was in pain and it was what was causing him to knot his brows. Poor baby, I thought. He did not ask to be born and yet why does he have to suffer pain this early in his life? His parents brought him to church probably to receive God's blessing early Sunday morning and ease their and the baby's suffering. I prayed silently for the baby. It was all I could do! How I wished then I had the wherewithal to help ease their pain. I was teary-eyed. The whole day of Sunday, I could not shake the image of that suffering baby with a big head, knotted brows, eyes closed, sleeping in his father's arm.

Thank you Lord that the parents of that baby took him to church. Doing so might have eased their pain a little, if not the baby's. Thank you for their faith. Like the Centurion may their faith bring them physical and spiritual healing.
